Retirement/Life Challenge

Retirement/Life Challenge Ltd. was formed in 1987 to:

  • Undertake research in the field of life and retirement planning
  • Disseminate information through workshops, periodicals and the internet

Approximately 1500-2000 employees each year participate in one, two or three day workshops conducted by Retirement/Life Challenge in co-operation with employers representing employees in the following sectors:

  • Advanced Education (Universities and Colleges)
  • Education (School Boards and Professional Association Locals)
  • Provincial Government Departments, Boards and Agencies
  • Federal Government
  • Cities and Towns
  • Pulp and Paper
  • Utilities (Power, Gas, Transmission and Distribution)
  • Health Care Unions
  • Church-based Employees

The company will design and deliver special interest sessions or keynote addresses for professional development days and conferences.

The Principle – Rein Selles, M.Sc., P.R.P.

Rein is President of Retirement/Life Challenge Ltd., and SFL Group Inc.

Born in The Netherlands, Rein undertook his Bachelor of Recreation ( Honours) at the University of Waterloo. Based on his work in the field of geriatric care in Ontario, he was hired as Recreation Consultant for Special Groups by the Province of Alberta. Following a brief career in community recreation at the City of St. Albert, Rein was appointed Executive Director of the Alberta Council on Aging and was instrumental in encouraging the development of the Canadian Association of Pre-Retirement Planners and the One Voice of Seniors Network in Canada. During his tenure, he launched Canada’s first English Pre-Retirement Magazine, Foresight. In 1987, he completed a Master of Science in Family Studies at the University of Alberta in 1988 and launched his own company, Retirement/Life Challenge Ltd.

In 1997, Rein received his designation as a Professional Retirement Planner and was awarded Honorary Life Membership in 2001 from the Canadian Association of Pre-Retirement Planners for his contributions to the field.
